TIP TUESDAY: "KNOW THE STATUS OF YOUR FIREARM" WITH RICK HOGG
In today's session, we'll discuss the importance of knowing the status of your firearm and how it relates to the four rules of firearm safety.
The first rule is to always treat firearms as if they were loaded. Additionally, it's crucial to be aware of the status of your firearm. It is important to respect the firearm even if it is currently unloaded. To confirm this, check that the chamber is empty, and the magazine well is completely empty.
To ensure a thorough understanding of the firearm's status, follow the "War Hogg Administrative Load" procedure. This involves facing a safe direction, drawing the pistol, confirming the sight alignment, locking the action to the rear, inserting the magazine, and releasing the slide forward.
At this point, it's crucial to conduct a War Hogg press check to verify that a round is in the chamber. Once confirmed, you can choose to re-holster the pistol or add an additional bullet to the magazine, maintaining the awareness that the firearm is fully loaded.
Being mindful of the status of the firearm is especially vital in life-threatening situations, whether you're a concealed carry holder, in the military, or in law enforcement. It ensures the ability to quickly respond and discharge rounds if necessary.
Remember to train hard, prioritize safety, and we look forward to seeing you on the range.
