TIP TUESDAY: "Lens Care" WITH JOHN ENLOE

Discover essential lens care techniques to maintain the longevity and performance of your sights. These tips from Aimpoint's Technical Support Manager, John Enloe, will help you protect your lenses and ensure protection and optimal functionality.

1. Use Lens Covers

Lens covers play a crucial role in safeguarding your sight. There are three key instances where utilizing lens covers is vital:

  • Long-Term Storage: Keeping lens covers on during storage prevents dust and buildup accumulation on lenses, making future cleaning easier.
  • Transportation: During transportation, both rear and front lens covers offer an additional layer of protection. They shield the objective and ocular bells, reducing the risk of damage.
  • Cleaning your firearm: When cleaning your gun, exercise caution. Some metal solvents could harm lens coatings irreversibly.

2. Proper Lens Cleaning

Effectively clean your lenses to maintain clarity and performance. While many retail products work well, consider these cleaning methods:

  • Canned Air or Pressure: To remove larger debris, using canned air or pressure proves effective.
  • Warm, Soapy Water: If canned air isn't an option, warm, soapy water can help eliminate debris effectively.
  • Fine Cleaning: For thorough cleaning, follow Aimpoint's practice of using Q-tips and acetone in production and service environments.
  • Avoid Abrasive Materials: Even a breath on a clean T-shirt can make a difference. Remember, any material used for cleaning must be free of abrasives like sand, which could damage the lens.
