TIP TUESDAY: OFFSET RED DOT SIGHT WITH JARED RESTON
Jared Reston of Reston Group Training delves into the practical application of Special Purpose Rifles (SPRs). While today's session takes place at a closer range than typically associated with SPRs, it serves an important purpose. These rifles are designed to perform optimally from zero to 600 yards.
When incorporating magnification into SPRs, it is crucial to remember their intended function. While many enthusiasts venture to longer distances for precision shooting, it is essential not to overlook the capabilities of offset red dot sights. These sights are not merely backups; they empower shooters to excel in close-quarters combat, engage targets from various angles, and transform their rifles into ultimate service weapons.
To effectively train with this rifle system, it is necessary to adjust your approach. Traditional techniques involve snapping up the rifle, aligning the eye with the magnified optic at the 12 o'clock position, and subsequently rotating the firearm to 45 degrees. However, when engaging targets up close, it is more efficient to start with the gun already in the rolling motion towards the 45-degree angle, enabling a quicker sight acquisition.
While this adjustment may seem different, it is an integral part of your training regimen when working with the offset red dot sight. Incorporating this technique ensures seamless transitions and maximizes your proficiency with the rifle system.
With the offset red dot sight, there is no compromise in speed or performance when engaging targets up close. This sight empowers shooters to maintain their capabilities in close-quarters scenarios while extending their reach for longer-distance engagements.
