TIP TUESDAY: “PISTOL GRIP” with Rick Hogg

Today, we'll be discussing the significance of a proper grip on a pistol and its impact on your marksmanship.

When establishing your grip, ensure that the web of your firing hand is positioned as high as possible on the beavertail of the pistol. Wrap your fingers around the frame, with your index finger resting alongside. The meaty part of your palm should make contact with the frame, and your index finger should touch the trigger guard. Be mindful of placing slight pressure on the frame, especially if you have an Aimpoint ACRO attached, to prevent interference with the slide release. Additionally, note that your support hand should be positioned in a clamshell manner, minimizing any gaps that could cause the pistol to move more in your hand. This helps ensure a firm secure grip.

To optimize your grip, slightly angle your support hand wrist forward, enhancing the lock on the pistol. When it comes to pressure, prioritize gripping with your support hand over your firing hand. Experiment to find the right balance for you, as there's no one-size-fits-all formula. By exerting more pressure with your support hand, your trigger finger can move independently, facilitating firearm manipulation.

Remember, a solid grip is a fundamental aspect of your marksmanship. Dedicate time to practice and refine your technique. Aim to engulf as much of the pistol frame as possible, effectively managing recoil between shots.

Improve your shooting skills with a strong and consistent grip. Practice and refine your grip technique to enhance your marksmanship.
